About Us.

A Current View.

The High Lawn Farm of today cannot be documented without understanding it’s highly regarded past. Colonel and Mrs. Wilde’s goal for the farm was to develop a profitable Jersey cow that would last longer in a herd than the average Jersey cow of that time. Using records from past generations, Mrs. Wilde was able to choose the bulls and cows with which to produce the offspring that we see in our herd today.

Since the Jersey is the smallest dairy cow, weighing 900 to 1000 lbs. when mature they need to have strength and capacity to stand up to the challenges of today’s modern dairy farms. For years, High Lawn Farm has been noted for supplying exactly this kind of animal, as seen in such bulls as Chocolate Soldier, Favorite Forester, and Forest Midnight. Our most recent introduction into the bull studs from High Lawn Farm is Fredrico Premier his first calves look very good, with good size and strength. It is not uncommon to see Jersey cows milking over 100 lbs. of milk per day and still maintain favorable fat and protein levels. There is a demand for Jersey semen to be used in crossbreeding with the Holstein, in hopes of getting a longer lasting cow producing milk with higher fat and protein.

The same strategy exists today. The breeding program is geared to higher production while maintaining the traits that we developed. We do, though, raise fewer bulls than before - with adequate space and personal attention at a premium, we have to be very selective of the bulls we raise.
