Beyond Organic

Customers often ask whether High Lawn Farm products are certified organic. Although the technical answer is no, our milk products are an even healthier choice. And better for the environment, too.

Since the federal government took over management of organic standards, they've been watered down, and the certification process has become substantially more cumbersome. As a result, many farms are choosing to leave the organic label behind, relying on customer education and satisfaction to instill consumer confidence and loyalty.

At High Lawn Farm, we promise that our milk is an all-natural, absolute hormone-free product. As mentioned, our cows feed off fresh grass in the summer months, and almost all of their winter feed comes straight from our corn and hay fields. We don't use genetically modified seeds and avoid harmful pesticides and herbicides. There are never any animal byproducts in our feed.

Jersey milk naturally has 20% more calcium than other milk, as well as 17% more protein, and higher amounts of vitamin A, thiamin, and riboflavin. Because High Lawn products are distributed locally and regionally, our milk is fresher, providing a more flavorful and more nutritious food.

A word about the mass-produced, organic milk, which is increasingly popular these days. For the most part, those cows are raised in factory-farm conditions, eating organic grain but never seeing the light of day. Because the milk is distributed nationally, it is "ultra-pasteurized" -- a process that extends shelf life, but also kills many of the enzymes and essential proteins in the milk. And as for the claims of higher nutritional content, our nutrition comes from the farm, not the lab, meaning any milk producer can add vitamins artificially. We believe that nutrition derived naturally is better.
